Review of The Hustler (1961) by Christopher N — 12 Nov 2012
1. I liked being back in that gritty urban film noir black and white world for a while. Sometimes I miss it.
2. I liked the story's classic progression, with scenes developing character divided into careful acts. The Hustler could easily be turned into a stage play. It's about pool, it's about people, deeply broken people.
3. I really liked Piper Laurie's performance.
4. I found myself getting restless because of the leisurely pacing - the modern world has corrupted me a bit.
5. I don't think I actually liked it, but maybe I did. I know one thing -- it's not going away, I'll pondering it for days.
