Review of The Hustler (1961) by Dylan B — 27 Dec 2016
An incredible film in every way. From the opening moments, it doesn't let up till the very end. "Fast Eddie" is unforgettable, as is the final showdown.
The film makes full use of the Cinemascope frame. I think it benefits being in Black and white as well; there is nothing colourful about the dark world these characters inhabit. They live their lives in black and white.
Sometimes, even when you win, you lose. Few films tell that moral as well as this one does. My highest recommendation.
