The Hurt Locker succeeds as a great film due to the direction of Kathryn Bigelow as well as the gripping suspense, the very well shot action scenes, the acting performances given by Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie as well as Guy Pearce and Ralph Fiennes and finally the film is incredibly realistic unlike some war films of the last few years.
