Solid enough drama with a superb performance from Denzel Washington. But a lot of this film rings false. Characters and scenes have been invented when it would have been preferable to stay closer to the facts.
The Dan Hedaya character may as well be twirling a big moustache wearing a sign saying 'evil baddie' and the 3 Canadians are just undeveloped and mushy.
Jewison directs with all the subtlety of a kick in the nuts and blows what should be an uplifting climax in the final courtroom scene.
