Review of The Hunt (2013) by Roxanne R — 22 Jan 2014
Another Oscar nominee for best foreign film, The Hunt will stay in your mind and clearly depicts how one lie can ruin a man's life. Mads Mikkelsen plays the role of Lucas, a former school teacher forced to start fresh after his bitter divorce and the closure of the school he was working at.
Now working at a local kindergarten and friends with all the kid's parents, life seems to be going good for Lucas until a child says a lie about him. That lie throws an entire community into chaos and makes Lucas an outcast, a pariah.
The acting was good, the plot was interesting and my only gripe were two scenes depicting dead animals. I do understand the relevance and implications of a "hunt' and deer hunting plus what happened to another animal.
I understand why the writer placed it on the script, but as an animal lover it hurts me to see that. The film may seem hopeless and grim at times but as a viewer you sympathize with Lucas and you are rooting for him until the end.
