Review of The Hunger (1983) by Adam E — 18 Apr 2009
There are 80's movies which date in style, and then there are some which, in retrospect, just feel incredibly silly. The Hunger is sadly in the second category. Having said that, the Bauhaus opening scene is brilliant, the cinematography is undeniably attractive and David Bowie is excellent although he checks out way too early.
Apart from that, the plot is irrelevant and so is that infamous Deneuve / Sarandon sex scene. Overall, The Hunger has its charms and its moments but as a film it's way too random to be really taken seriously.
