Review of The Hunger (1983) by Angie I — 19 Dec 2010
What a sloooooooow movie. I fell asleep waiting for something coherent to happen. It was a good 40 minute nap while they showed monkeys, waiting rooms and classical music sessions. Then they got to the point, which I thought was to get Bowie out of the way and get down to the business of Sarandon.
I really like these vampires; no fangs, no glowy eyes, no aversion to sunlight and most importantly no sparkling in the sun. Very good casting. If I had to choose a vampire to sire me, how could I NOT choose Catherine Deneuve after seeing this? Set design was excellent as well. Every room was breathtaking.
Now the questions. Why was Cliff De Young so suspicious? Was there a previous lesbian encounter that left his wary? How did the previous paramours get out of the boxes? Is Sarandon now queen bee or will she die in 300 years restoring Deneuve to full power?
Worth watching if for no other reason but NOBODY SPARKLES!
