Review of The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009) by Juan B — 27 Apr 2012
In the final 15 to 20 minutes of this film, one would have been able to take one glance at my face (had anyone I know been willing to watch such a film) and surmise that I was quite dramatically disgusted by much of the imagery in The Human Centipede.
I do like disturbing horror, but as is my philosophy with ANY genre, there is no excuse to make a dumb film. This film wasn't very smart. It relied wholly on its ability to shock its audience. Having said that, I will offer one token of supremacy on behalf of the film: its formidable villain was amongst the most hated in recent times that I have come across.
I genuinely hated the sadistic and brilliant mastermind behind the act that reveals the film's title. I wish the film had been more believable and more thorough with its science. The evil genius was cast quite perfectly, I must say.
In the end, I'm glad I saw this unusual genre flick.
