Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by James R — 18 Nov 2009
A stupid forgettable name, but a fun satire of 50's corporate America. The satire on the characters gets old, especially Jennifer Leigh's annoying acting for the journalist woman, her only good moment was when she was faking being a Muncie girl.
The camera work is swell, and the sets and props are all well chosen. I enjoyed the use of colors, but thought the visual style came short. There's nothing really ground breaking or more than slightly interesting.
I liked the hula-hoop scene where the children discovered it...but it's just a bit too farfetched for me to permit as a good plot device: hoops have been used for thousands of years for various purposes; even though the hula hoop as a marketed toy did begin in the 50s, IN AUSTRALIA.
