Review of The House of Yes (1997) by Jennifer S — 16 Aug 2005
I just got finished watching The House of Yes. I liked this movie. It was a very dark comedy and I found some of it to be very funny in a very twisted sort of way. I watched it twice (Mike watched half of it and didn't want to watch the rest).
In this movie, there is a mentally disturbed girl (DEEPLY mentally disturbed girl) who lives in a dysfunctional family (VERY dysfunctional family). The girl believes that she is Jackie Kennedy (perhaps she should have hooked up with the black guy in Bubba Ho-Tep who believed he was JFK, but anyway...). She lives at home with her mom and younger brother. Her twin brother comes home at Thanksgiving and announces that he is engaged to be married.
"Jackie" is very upset by this news and it is later revealed that the twins have been...ummmmmmmm..."intimate" with each other in the past (ICK!). Anyway, the twins can't resist and they sneak around behind the back of the brothers fiance. They get off on re-enacting JFK's assination. When the fiance finds out, she is so distraught that sleeps with the younger brother of the twins to get even with her fiance. I liked the movie because it made me think and much of it was open to interpretation. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was that, for the first time EVER, I was actually rooting FOR a character played by Tori Spelling (she played the fiance). Overall it was good, but I kinda was hoping for a different ending (these strange movies never end quite the way I'd like them to).
Overall 8 out of 10 stars!
