Review of The House of the Spirits (1993) by Martin O — 18 Mar 2007
Great family drama with excellent performances. This is one of the most underrated movies ever made and also one of the best films ever. I haven`t read the novel by Isabel Allende, but I think it couldn`t change my admiration for the film too much.
This film is flawless, cinematography is beautiful, the story is great, and then there is the cast. Meryl Streep gives one of her best performances in a film, Jeremy Irons is Oscar-worthy and Winona Ryder, Glenn Close, Antonio Banderas and Vincent Gallo in supporting roles makes it one of the most brilliant acting ensembles ever.
The cast leader is Irons. He proves that he is one of the best actors there is playing his character in ages between assumingly 20-85, all very convincingly, starting out as a young gold miner and ending in dying age.
"The House of the Spirits" is an underrated classic and I recommend it to everyone.
