Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Steve W — 08 May 2010
House of the Devil is a neat little horror gem that is well crafted and chock full of suspense. What I mean by 'little' is that it uses the term 'less is more'. A very simplistic tone and story with wonderful direction. The cinematography is full of pans, slow zooms, and helps to build tension and suspense.
The set design and art direction is wonderful. Its a throwback to the horror movies of the late 70's and early 80's. The attention to detail is excellent and they even use 80's style font.
The movie does have some slow parts, but it ends with a horrific twist and bang. I did feel that it got a little ambitious at the end with the gore but overall and a very effective and creepy horror film.
