Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Jessica W — 28 Sep 2010
The concept of this horror flick is pretty good. Its presentation assumes at early 80's horror flick, the clothing and style also relate to this.
The main female character is played well, and the couple in the house play a well presented creepy couple. The friend is, much like many horror yarns back then, irritating over the top capturing the essences of movies back then rather well.
What lets this film down, is the plot, and its execution. Nothing, and I mean Nothing happens for the first hour. Its simply following the main character about. Nothing interesting happens.
Once in the house, again, nothing really happens. The couple add a little creepiness to it, the film never made me feel that uneasy. 20mins left in the film, the pace starts to pick up and the main character goes from dancingabout the house, to now creeping about scared. 10mins left, FINALLY something happens, and then you are treated with a rather credible finale, but it all happens too quick.
Not only does it happen too quick but rather than having a useless main character when the sh*t hits the fan, they favour a stronger role, but I feel it was TOO strong. She didn't seem believable.
None the less, a good horror film,.
