Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Christopher S — 13 Oct 2010
Surprisingly takes an old-fashioned approach to horror, not just in the oft-mentioned 70s-80s vibe, but in the way it piles on the atmosphere before resorting to shock scares. The result is trying at times, but there are some inspired sequences, thanks in large parts to the presence of cult icons Tom Noonan and Mary Woronov.
Not the horror masterpiece that will save the genre, as some have claimed it, but a refreshing effort.
