This movie is not sure what it set out to be, and I don't think you're supposed to ask. A decent creature-feature, a touch of conspiracy, truly overboard ridiculous in places, and some very intense and surprising emotional stuff.
The parent/child relationship was what really did it for me in this movie. I wasn't sure whether it was really stupid or really different, but it was definitely fascinating and I liked it.
