Review of The Host (2006) by Brandon W — 24 Nov 2016
The Host is directed and co-written by Bong Joon-ho, and it stars Song Kang-ho in a South Korea monster film about a monster that come out of the Han River and kidnapped a daughter of a father, and he wants to go find her.
I remember enjoying Snowpiercer a lot that I went back to watching The Host, which I honestly loved. The acting is really good, and I like the effect design of the monster. There are some scares, and some humor that's really funny.
I like how it gives a bit of a representation of what Korea is like if they're in danger in perhaps a satire way. It's smart, and when it's not, it's well-addressed that the characters are not the brightest in terms of the situation.
The characters are memorable, and I had no idea about whether they're going to survive or not. The Host is a fantastic monster film that I need to see more of the director's work.
