Review of The Horseman (2009) by Andy G — 16 Jan 2011
Christian (Peter Marshall), a divorced father and white collar businessman is in mourning after the death of his daughter. When a pornographic video arrives anonymously in the mail to him, featuring his daughter heavily intoxicated and sexually abused, Christian sets out on a reckless journey to find answers. Fuelled by rage and sorrow, the death toll quickly rises as he uncovers an ugly truth. Along the way he meets Alice, a young runaway not unlike his daughter and a fragile friendship begins to unfold...
This is kind of an Australian version of "Dead Man Shoes", but I reckon with a lot smaller budget and made in QLD and Brisbane. I reckon I haven´t seen anything this violent for a long time. "The Horseman" is quite rough, but yet it works with the revenge theme. I think it´s not too shabby for being a low budget movie made more or less by Australian filmgraduates. The acting is solid, but maybe the way it has been shot is a bit wobbly sometimes. Nevertheless, I am pleased to see stuff coming out of QLD and Brisbane since this is where I spent some of my best years of my life. And I will always support anything from QLD and Brisbane.
