Review of The Horseman (2009) by Sandy R — 03 Apr 2011
Australian revenge thriller made on a shoestring budget. For the most part it's believable, gritty and compelling especially given it's obvious budget limitations. The actor that plays the father and therefore the central protagonist is excellent.
It's quite grim and consistently violent although you don't actually see things graphically depicted, it is still well implied. It's not Paul Schrader's Hardcore which deals with similar subject matter in a far more subtle and refined way, but The Horseman remains a worthwhile revenge flick that has a raw, grindhouse feel to it and therefore I think is essential viewing for fans of the sub-genre.
