This movie hold up quite well today even with some outdated effects. The strong story and good cinematography make up for any outdated issues, and even though there are some visual effects that don't quite work anymore, they are used pretty minimally, so they don't drag the focus away from the story or action very much. It had been quite a long time since I've seen this one, and while I don't think it matches the sequel, it's still a lot better than I thought I remembered it being.
