Review of The Holy Mountain (1973) by Albert P — 12 Mar 2008
This movie is ridiculous and wonderful; think of The Hall of 999 Testicles, then think of how apt the words ridiculous and wonderful are. It's crazy like religious texts are sometimes crazy: overthetop poetic, sexual, bloody, and with the lingering What's the point? lurking in the background.
Unfortunately??? the lines are useless. I think Jodorowsky had it right at the outset when characters only produced gibberish. The lines, sometimes funny, mostly didactic, seem to have been gleaned from the book-jackets of Buddhist books.
