Review of The Holy Mountain (1973) by Emmanuel P — 27 Mar 2008
Alejandro Jodorowsky is the kind of experimental filmmaker that David Lynch wishes he could be. This is a hard film to recommend. It is not a film you enjoy. It's a film you experience, take in and analyze.
It has a narrative thread, though it is simply there to serve as a forum in which to experiment with the medium. Jodorowsky displays disturbing imagery that comments on religion (obviously), modernity, war, violence and of course, sexuality.
I recommend with hesitation, because this film is not for everyone, especially if you have little patience for experimental filmmaking. Also, the film has unnerving images. Proceed with caution.
