Review of The Holy Mountain (1973) by Elena . — 08 Nov 2007
I don't care what anyone else thinks I should think, but regardless of his having become a sacred cow in film history, I find Jodorowsky to have made a truly distasteful film here. It's not only distastefully wrought, but it heavy-handedly juggles some pretty powerful symbols.
We have enough films without any sense of the sacred, give us a break. The whole Jesus demeaning thing is getting really old and stale.Say something new. Say something meaningful. Say something that matters.
Build something for a change. Social deconstruction is old news, and not only this, but there's pretty much nothing left culturally that we can live for or that binds us together as a group and artists should focus on addressing that crisis rather than digging even deeper holes between us.
