Review of The Holy Mountain (1973) by Simon D — 04 Sep 2014
After seeing El Topo and Santa Sangre I knew that this was going to be odd; it didn't disappoint. I didn't know that Joddo was such a perv though. Watching the start of this film would be a bit like watching the start of Jesus Christ Superstar after you've had your absinthe spiked with acid.
The story doesn't really kick in until near the end and, even then, it doesn't really go anywhere. This is a work of art that is meant to be absorbed and not thought about too much, at least there should be a safety sticker on the front of the box saying so.
I thought about as far as it is making a joke out of religion (christianity mainly) and that, it is more ridiculous than the goings on in this film.
