Review of The Hoax (2006) by Maria H — 07 May 2008
Not bad but not particularly outstanding. the good: alfred molina is awesome most of the time with no exception here. its good to see julie delpy in film even if shes playing a horrible character. I got that horrible, pit of the stomach feeling that I get when ive lied and had to cover myself up so the effect of the events was felt. I had few to no complaints about gere which is good. the bad: there are some who will interpret some of the events in the end as a type of psychosis rather than actually dealing with the fact that clifford irving was willfully lying in his right mind and was not reacting to some type of mental instability. im not a big fan of marcia gay harden. she didnt do poorly, but something just always bothers me about her.
I do find the events of this story very very interesting though. and if you like the idea behind this film watch orson welles f for fake.
