Review of The Hoax (2006) by Christine B — 30 Nov 2008
Just when you thought you were never going to see another smart, witty and sexy movie at least half as good as Charlie Wilson's War, along comes Hoax. Despite its length and subject, Hoax never lets up for a minute and is breathlessly exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat and sanity for the full two hours.
Gere, Molina and a superb supporting cast are all excellent, the director doesn't let historical veracity and production design get in the way of the action and the dialogue cracks along energetically.
I've seen so many films based on true-life stories that were just plain dull (Ray, Walk The Line etc.) but Hallstrom's direction has just the right balance of thrills and facts. Must read both Irving's books.
Excellent!
