Review of The Hitcher (1986) by Dave S — 12 Jul 2011
Calling something a really great genre film always feels like a backhanded compliment; it suggests excellence within limits. But that's sort of how I feel about this one, which is really accomplished without quite being brilliant, and takes the story to unexpected places while not reinventing the wheel.
Still, I think this comes off as a deceptively simple movie - we've probably seen the bad version of the horror hitchhiker movie, so let's not underestimate how much went right in this one.
