Review of The Hills Have Eyes (1977) by Holger H — 06 Jul 2007
Why does noone ever listen to crazy old gas station attendents in the middle of nowhere who warn you not to get off the main road?
This is an excellent, downbeat grindhouse classic that had managed to pass me by for years. Not for want of trying: At one stage I hired a faulty VHS video that managed to fritz my video computer.
I am generally not all that much of a Wes Craven Fan as he is often more miss than hit, but this production is one of his better ones. Although low key and like a number of other 1970s cult classics not all that gory, this is is a very effective, grim and existentialist horror production that pulls no punches.
Highly recommended.
