Review of The Hidden Blade (2004) by Allen R — 14 May 2011
Most U.S. audiences know Masatoshi Nagase from his work in Jim Jarmusch's MYSTERY TRAIN, but it's his work in Kaizo Kayashi's brilliant Maiku Hama (read "Mike Hammer") films that made me a fan.
Of the films I've seen, this is Nagase's most layered, yet subtle performance, and it's easy to see why he's not just an important actor to Japan, but internationally as well.
