Review of The Hidden Blade (2004) by Eric K — 06 Jun 2008
This is the second movie by Yoji Yamada, and in my opinion, is much better than his first. Set in generally the same time period as his first movie, this samurai has to come to terms with himself in order to survive in an ever-changing Japan. Great movie!
One additional note: These movies are not intense-action samurai movies. The movies by Yoji Yamada have in-depth and sometimes lengthy character development that typically leads up to one crucial moment of action. If you are looking for a great story based in the Japanese culture, this is a wonderful movie. If you are looking for Kung Fu Hustle, look elsewhere.
