Review of The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things (2004) by Kevin T — 25 Aug 2008
An unrelenting film that depicts almost unwatchable child cruelty, but never allows the audience time to connect with the characters. Although the subject matter is very disturbing, there is no emotional connection to the story.
The complete lack of intellectual depth turns the film into a slide show of impersonal explicit images, Argento seems to be too caught up in attempting to make an edgy cult-classic that she forgets the entire point of the material.
Could of been an extremely moving film if it wasn't so detached.
