Review of The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2008) by Nathan N — 04 Apr 2010
Other than an ending that must, even to the most generous, must be seen as poor, there is nothing wrong with The Haunting of Molly Hartley. Like the remake of of Prom Night, also from 2008, it simply isn't horror.
It just isn't. It isn't for grown people wanting a scary movie and it certainly isn't for horror fans. It's mostly middle schoolers and high schoolers who don't can't handle horror but want something "horror themed".
It's ABOUT scary things but isn't too concerned with being scary. It's mostly blase' teen drama in a Carrie/Rosemary's Baby mold. And that's exactly what the audience wants, even if they jeer it.
