Review of The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2008) by Charles P — 30 Sep 2011
The Haunting of Molly Hartley is an awful horror flick that doubles as a live action version of Teen Girl Squad. There are many cliquey stereotypes of teen girls whose names you will not remember other than "So and So" "What's Her Face" and "The Ugly One.
" And they are all very stupid. The film is unoriginal, poorly-made, and not as edgy as the filmmakers think they are being. I can't think of a single reason why somebody would think this is a halfway decent movie or be scared of it.
The only teen guy in the movie (Chace Crawford) seems to channel Jim from The Office and there's such an abundance of female characters, that I would have believed he was the only guy in a school for girls.
There isn't a shred of good acting in the movie and the characters are very stock, including the annoying Christian girl, the bitchy ex-girlfriend, the smoking drunk chick, and the main character who thinks she has serious issues despite being white and adored in high school (aka Bella Swan).
I'm not sure if the film is supposed to be anti- or pro-Christian garbage, but it's annoying as all hell. The ending has a stupid twist, is confusing, and lacks resolution. I hope you are never forced to watch the extremely flat The Haunting of Molly Fartley, but if you do, it sometimes doubles as a do-it-yourself comedy.
