Review of The Haunting in Connecticut (2009) by Robb J — 29 Dec 2010
"I'm already dead.".
The regular middle-America family being tortured by disturbed spirits in a haunted house is given a depressing twist as their Cancer suffering son becomes the catalyst for both the need to move (closer to the hospital where he's receiving treatment) & the agitation of the spirits (he can see them because he's almost one himself). There are some scenes depicting the sadness of the mother which almost become poignant but with enough jump-scares (LOOOUD NOOOISES!) to eventually bore the arse off your granny the film quickly descends into being a straight-up Amityville Horror/Poltergeist wannabe & trudges out the same old boring haunted-house movie schtick. A basement, a building with a dark past, stupid ghosts jumping out of the shadows, the lights turning off, a psychic connection, etc, etc.
If you stay watching long enough you'll become savvy to the fact that this entire family must have an extremely strong gag reflex and no ability to smell AT ALL. There's a cheesy, predictable ending to top it all off. Ah, feck - I really can't be bothered reviewing a movie where absolutely no effort was made. This film SUCKS. Bad.
