Review of The Haunting (1963) by Chris W — 18 Dec 2007
Dated and cheesy. I don't care how jaded I sound, but I got so bored I almost turned it off, but decided to fight through it. Despite the fact that I fell asleep several times, I was awake for most of it wishing that I wasn't so stubbornly committed to finishing this piece of shit so I could just sleep. Anyone who gives this movie 5 stars must be really committed to the genre and blind to its melodramatic cheese, poor acting, and plain lack of quality in film-making.
I do, however, feel obligated to give the movie's story some credit, having influence on future horror flicks. Plus, the sets seemed pretty cool, especially the library with the spiral staircase. Overall, I wish I hadn't bothered with this one.
