Review of The Haunting (1963) by Kayleigh F — 26 Apr 2008
Robert Wise took the story from Shirley Jackson and actually did it justice. The house needed no monster, it was the monster and the ambiguity of the haunting or psychosis of Eleanor played out brilliantly.
This was a harrowing horror from my childhood that lived up to my expectations when I came back to it in later life. If only modern horror films were still as powerful as this without resorting to gore.
