Review of The Haunting (1963) by Marissa & — 01 Nov 2008
No one will ever shoot a "haunted house" film better than this. I was genuinely surprised at how insanely creepy The Haunting was and I can't ever recall being as freaked out by a film as I was during this screening.
No idiotic scare tactics; no blood; no "monster"; none of all that stupidity that isn't even all that scary at this point in horror film culture. My one knock against this was the presence of a "romantic intrigue" that does not enhance the film in any significant way.
Other than that, The Haunting is just an overall amazingly good horror film that scares you like no other.
