Review of The Guest (2014) by Wesley H — 14 Jan 2015
Wow. If John Carpenter's Michael Myers and James Cameron's Terminator had a baby, they would name it "The Guest." And when people saw him they would swear he bore a striking resemblance to his uncle, Jack Torrance.
With The Guest, Adam Wingard presents an incredibly unique horror, comedy, and action flick all mixed into one that takes note from the formulas of 80's action films and the suspenseful tricks of 70's horror. I wasn't familiar with Dan Stevens until this film, but I was pleasantly riveted by his performance. His portrayal of David included an aura of charm that Ryan Gosling wishes he had, but also an automatic switch to the terrifying that reminds me of Jack Nicholson's possessed performance in The Shining.
Definitely a keeper of 2014 that I wish I had a chance to see on the big screen.
