Review of The Grifters (1990) by Ali S — 10 Aug 2008
At first, I wasn't quite sure if I was going to keep watching this film. Boy, am I glad that I stuck with it!
Frears is able to take the old con movie and present it in a way that's intriguing and stylish. The violence is believable. It was so believable that it made me uncomfortable, which is unusual. The plot is just intricate enough to keep you interested.
The performances in this film are great. I'm a big Cusack fan but I think Houston really steals the show. It worth watching it just to see this lady act.
