Review of The Grey Zone (2001) by R. S — 06 Aug 2011
A film which is merciless, cold, pessimistic and about unequivocal realism. This is about making righteous choices within a closed system that is entirely malevolent, and hence that seem to make no difference at all. It is not a regular Holocaust movie which doesn't end with everyone dead, so that we can somehow be confident that life goes on. But such stories refuse the central fact that the irresistible mass of Holocaust victims vanished into the hole of evil. It is mainly about an eerie dilemma of living with the honor and be dead or living with shame and live "another kind" of death.
Masterpiece indeed!
