Review of The Grey Zone (2001) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
I admire Tim Blake Nelson for making a film like this. No heroes, no hope, no humanity and no happy ending. This is probably the closest a mainstream film will get to capturing the Holocaust. But the delivery of the dialogue seems overwritten and way too rehearsed.
Every character knows exactly what they wanna say and fires it back right as the other person stops moving there lips. Showing multiple shots of entire gas chambers filled with naked dead bodies, ash piles etc etc over and over didn't do anything for me.
The first shot worked, why put the audience through 2-4 more shots like that? I admire the film for where it went but Tim Blake Nelson doesn't execute it nearly as well as I would've hoped for.
