Review of The Green Inferno (2013) by Erick K — 19 Oct 2015
Boring as hell. A tribute/knock-off Italian cannibal movie should not be this dull, or feature gore that feels completely Nerfed compared to what you'd see on "The Walking Dead" or even "Breaking Bad." What's worse, "The Green Inferno" is nowhere near as confrontational or gleefully tasteless as even the weakest of its type; this movie just haven't the balls to really work the premise, and the scariest thing about a movie like this shouldn't be the prospect of a sequel in a mid-credit stinger.
Funny thing I noticed: at one point in the movie, a character is accused of creating the situation our Scooby Gang of Fox News Liberals/Social Justice Warriors got into, and he retorts by screaming about 9/11 and the War on Drugs, as if pointing out other larger evils is an excuse. When "Hostel" came out, when asked by a critic if his movie was xenophobic or exploitive, Roth countered that his actions were nothing compared to the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld administration. While doing press for "The Green Inferno," when asked about painting negative stereotypes of indigenous peoples, Roth countered that the oil companies were doing worse than anything he's ever done to them. It says something that the director uses the same tactics as the scummiest of the "good guys" when confronted with an unpleasant question.
