Review of The Green Inferno (2013) by Howard F — 08 Apr 2017
This is a gory film to be sure, and it's clearly not a historical piece of film making. But it's visually stunning (including stunning gore), interesting watching, and doesn't drag on. Many of the critic reviews of this film are comical - panning a movie with the flowery over elocution that make movie critics parodies of their own genre. Yes, the movie is shallow -to give a subject like this and the characters involved the necessary depth would take far longer than most viewers would like. The plane crash is incredibly well done, the scenery is stunning, and plot is fine. It's a fun diversion. If the movie were twice as long and created on twice the budget perhaps the professional critics would like it - and it would make it unwatchable as entertainment.
The ultimate irony is to see a millennial "professional" critic chiding the movie for no having the characters adequately research the tribe is delicious - anyone who's ever hired out of the millennial generation would realize that's actually one of the most accurate aspects of the movie.
This movie is fine fun. It's gory, so don't watch it if you don't want gore. If you want a critical masterpiece, there are plenty of those that drag on for 3 hours but hit all the buttons needed to win critical acclaim.
