Review of The Green Berets (1968) by Grant S — 05 May 2010
Not as dire as I was expecting, though nothing outstanding. I found the 'marching' intro/outro music a little outdated, as it harked back to films he'd made a good 25 years beforehand.
Whether you think America being in SE Asia was a good or bad idea; and I think I know what the concensus is, John Wayne was obviously a patriotic man with right wing views and clearly wished to make a movie which gave the guys at the sharp end of the conflict a pat on the back; much like his WWII films. Having said that, I'm not sure this kind of angle would be applied to a screenplay set in Afghanistan these days.
