Review of The Green Berets (1968) by Daniel K — 22 Apr 2010
1: Wow, a pro-Vietnam War film made during the Vietnam War. Not onlyare many scenes a bit insulting to ones intelligence and ridiculously simplistic, but it's a poorly made and dreadfully outdated picture.
It bears almost no relation to Wayne's better work from the 60's and 70's, but instead seems to be a throwback to a far earlier time's B- and C-pictures. The performances are atrocious.
The sets and locations are laughable. The story could use a great deal of work. The pro-war theme is a bit ridiculous. The action sequences are boring. Not much about the film worked for me. A huge disappointment, especially since I'd been looking forward to seeing another Wayne film on Blu-Ray.
Why, oh why, did they choose to release this one? It is interesting to see a so blatantly right wing war film though.
