Review of The Greatest Showman (2017) by Steve S — 27 Feb 2018
I'm not so sure we need a film to glorify P.T. Barnum. Granted this is hardly a film that claims to be an accurate depiction of his world, but it advances his name nevertheless. It chooses to portray him as the champion for the rights of the minorities.
The true Barnum was a cruel and greedy man who exploited the oddness of his circus acts. The film itself comes off as insincere. The music numbers are passable and the performances decent. Everything else is pretty dull.
