Review of The Great Ziegfeld (1936) by The-Lords A — 06 Jul 2012
Not much to say about this film other than great performances and winning production design and costuming capturing the extravagance of Ziegfeld and his larger than life productions. The movie seems to want to display the late(in that time) Ziegfeld's prowess rather than his humanity but Powell delivers enough of it.
A very long movie and not for those who are looking for quality storytelling. The film is more of a remembrance but you can also skip through an hour of the film and simply watch Powell and his co-stars do their thing.
