Review of The Great Ziegfeld (1936) by Joel A — 27 Aug 2015
The cinema's dated symbol of over-the-top style has a few appeals left to look at, but the potential that'd gotten its Best Picture win seem to have decayed. What remains in this picture that still maintain clear visual intention is a mix of presenting snippets of the titular showman's works and how he'd came up with them as well how he'd found his successful calling in a so-called historical fictional fashion. The main character developments shows progressiveness within that fashion with only a few important characters connected than paying attention to the other players, which is one of the examples to call this tedious filled with many unnecessary points, some with terms of overacting, that could've made this shorter. Even though it's mostly bland, the entertaining value presents at least some offers to enjoy from such as the sporadic musical tunes and few of the plays, alongside the okay writing when showcasing a dreamcatcher's journey. To simply describe the overall level of whether the film is good or not, it's mostly okay while closer to the in-between towards good than bad. (B-).
