Review of The Great Wall (2016) by Benjamin R — 09 May 2017
Great Wall's "setting up for war" scenes and the wars against monsters are long and boring, and the monsters' designs for this film are a vast disappointment, I expected masterpiece art from Legendary Pictures if they're going to be at the same time the main production for MonsterVerse. There was also lots of cliche B-movie dialogue in place of an award-deserving script, it's not like I'm asking for a script that can win the Academy Award for Best Screenplay, just a decent script that's all, all these ancient Chinese Power Rangers ever say is "GO! GO! GO! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! KILL! KILL! KILL! Trouble, we must do something!" in Mandarin, of course. Whatever Matt Damon says in English probably is either equivalent or just as boring, since he chatters about all he can chatter about when he can't do anything about a monster apocalypse.
Kong: Skull Island is a much better monster movie.
