Review of The Great McGinty (1940) by Adam C — 29 Jan 2010
This a really a fun little political fable about a hobo becoming a corrupt governor. it is funny to me this goofy fable actually relates to todays world. In a time when people like Rod Blagojevich makes headlines, this film still has some frightening relevance.
Aside from all that, it has a witty and funny script by Preston Sturges. There are also a handful of scenes that visually were impressive for a comedy of the era. The film also conveys some sincere emotion amongst all the silliness, which adds a little more depth.
A fun fantasy.
