Review of The Great Gatsby (1974) by Chris C — 19 May 2012
I liked this film, I thought it was very good at capturing the love and devotion of Jay Gatsby, and the integrity of his character. I teared up a bit when Nick Carraway said to Gatsby, "They're a rotten bunch. You're worth the whole lot of them put together.." Just after he said that, Gatsby was murdered. I found great artistic beauty in that.
Critics don't like it, I don't know why, but I don't always agree with critics. Robert Redford is iconic and weirdly similar in looks to Brad Pitt, almost scarily similar.
It captured the essence of the book, and I don't think you can ask for more than that.
